Marcin "DieStar" Wieczorek is an old and important member of the Starcraft 2 team. Nicknamed "the Shadow Man" by Dayshi, the Terran player will soon celebrate his third year at Millenium. Discreet but serious in his training, DieStar accepted this interview in order to tell us his current events, the evolution of his team and his future goals.
[M] Kaefer : Hello DieStar. How are you doing?
[M] DieStar : pretty okay!! ^^
You are back home after a summer at the Gaming House. Did you learn as much as you wished at the GH?
Actually, I thought i could take much more from GH as I expected to train 8h per day, I did this but only for 2 weeks, then I was too boring of playing and I decided to spend my time on watching stream, talking to people and I was few times on the beach. Anyway it was great experience for me and maybe I will be back to GH next summer but not for so long, 3 weeks max. Standing there was good time for me as a player.
You can't concentrate with MaddeLisk and Dayshi!
Yeah, when they came to GH it was the best time for me I think, I could talk to them and generally spend really nice time with them. I miss them a lot :)
What are your current news, have you some national competitions?
Yeah, I'm in EPS Poland groupstages which will be played on Thursday. I hope I will do well and I will advance to playoffs. For other tournaments I'm not attending because I am training a loooot on ladder :) I am sure if I will be that motivated I could be much better soon.
Is your EPS group easy?
No, it will be hard group, good players like Paranoid, DaNa and less known Basior (GM terran) but I think it will not be an easy way for me to take 1st place in this group. I can't disregard my opponents. It will be evening 7 p.m. Thursday and it will be streamed on https://www.twitch.tv/esl_poland2
You play a lot of weekly tournaments, is competition the way you like Sc2?
Lately as I said I try to focus on training, not tournament but earlier I played a lot of online cups because it's part of training as well, there are a lot of good players and it's a chance to win some extra money :)
Are you trying to convince your teammates to participate to those tournaments as well?
No, I think it's a private thing, if they do'nt want I will not push them to play. I like to play online cups because it's also better motivation than playing no matter ladder games. Not all people like to play online cups.
Some of your mates began to cast (MaddeLisk, Goswser, Dayshi...), will you try this?
I did this already but with polish casters. I liked it but I think I like playing more than casting, it's not for me. But I think best duet to cast is : real caster, real player, because a player knows everything about the game and doesn't say stupid things like we hear sometimes on the streams :)
How do your weeks look like now? Do you train all day, do you try to see friends, are you still at university?
It's a little bit of everything : D morning to evening I try to play Starcraft, then I meet with girlfriend, friends, moto, party etc... And yes, I am still at university but I have a lot of time now anyway : )
Do you still stream?
No, I can't stream because I have bad connection at home and it's not enough to stream in good quality.
You didn't succeed to qualify yourself for DreamHack Winter if I remember well, is this a big disappointment for you?
Yeah, I tried to qualify for a DH but there were too many great koreans and it was so so little chance to advance anyway. I'm not stressed about this tournament.
How do you judge your current level?
I dont like to talk about my skills, I prefer to show people and let them decide :)
Team results in ATC are not very good yet, how can you explain that?
I think it's not that other teams are better. I think it's just bad luck for Millenium's players and I am sure we will do better in second part of tournament. We have one of the best team in Europe now and I think we just need some more luck in games, hmmm... And maybe nerf protoss hahaha :D
Is there a player that impressed you a lot during this WCS season 3?
Yes, it is MMA, as everybody knows MMA was one of the best terran if not the best in the world, then he disappeared and now he shows extremely big skill :)

It's so hard to advance from zero to challenger, then from challenger to WCS so I can't guarantee it but I will do my best to get a spot in WCS.
You are part of Millenium since nearly 3 years, you saw a lot of competition and teammates. What do you think about Millenium's current evolution?
If we talk about squad and players, here we have best squad in my whole career in Millenium, I am very happy to take BBK as a protoss, we needed one imba race and it's so helpful for now. We have a chance to win every match as a team if players will play their best :)
How is eSport in Poland?
SC2 is still not that popular, I would like to have eSports on level like in France or Germany but I don't think it will come to that soon. Maybe in a few years ... only EPS Poland has a good viewership, it's like 2000~~ always but I want to see this numbers in other tournaments, for now unfortunately it's not possible. I don't know why people in Poland don't like to watch this.
Recently, a french team (Nuit Blanche) recruited funkay, a polish player and little brother of Mana. Do you know him a bit? Is France the new favorite destination for polish players ;)?
I think Mana is the little brother of funkay. Funkay is the older brother ;) well actually I didn't know about this team and about Funkay but yeah it can be a chance for less known players to get some extra fanbase because eSport in France is very popular.
What is your best matchup at this moment, and your worse ?
For now I don't have a best matchup, I feel really confident in every match up instead of very late game vs Protoss, I think it's at the same level. I can't pick only one really good MU for me. Just have to complain about very very late game versus Protoss which is unwinable :)

Are you still eating Nutella to please MaddeLisk?
Wow to be honest I never ate nutella with MaddeLisk ;P she is too greedy to share her nutella ... I got some little teaspoons but it was very seldom ;P and now at home I don't eat nutella either : D
Did you find something strange in France?
Yes! It is BREAD! I really don't like french bread, it is so different from my country and I couldn't find something similar to the polish one! Every person complains about food in other countries, I talked to Goswser or Squirtle and they all miss their national food :D.
But french people are so proud of their bread!
Ahah ! But I love french burgers ; ) I miss them sooooooooooooooooooo much !! I would like to eat one right now :(
What's happening on the Millenium players' channel on Skype? Many trolls or is it a serious place?
Well, we don't talk a lot on channel on skype ;P only about clanwars etc. But in private talks we joke a lot ^^ haha
What would you become if you were not a proplayer? Football player?
I didn't think about it but I'm sure I wouldn't be a football player because my parents didn't want me to play it when I was young. I was really really good, the best left defender in my city ;P, but they prefer me to go to school. I don't know, maybe I would play another game cause I love games and esport, I can't live without it.
Are you still a great fan of motorcycles?
Yeah all the time, i started to make videos from riding on Facebook.
So, do you prefer Facebook or Twitter ?
Ohhh much more Facebook, I almost don't use Twitter. On my facebook, I upload many many funny and interesting things so I invite everybody to like my fb fanpage :D things from my real life, tournaments, informations about my career and a lot more.
With which players have you the best relationship? Still Tarson?
Noo, I don't talk with Tarson at all, he just stopped to play anything, he started to have a real life - by the way good luck for him. Best relationship are with Dayshi and MaddeLisk i think, sometimes we talk and this is very nice, when I was in GH we were very good friends :)
