Icefrog continue de faire évoluer DotA 1 avec la sortie de la version 6.77 de Defense of the Ancients, la carte sur Warcraft 3 The Frozen Throne dont DotA 2 est directement issu. Contrairement aux mises à jours précédentes, il n'y a pas de nouveau contenu au programme mais seulement des changements qui touchent à l'équilibrage. Ces changements devraient débarquer très vite sur DotA 2, sûrement dans le prochain patch.
Voici quelques points à noter sur les changements :
Drow Ranger et Centaur sont nerfés sans surprise, ces deux héros étant considérés comme trop puissants par l'immense majorité de la communauté. À voir s'ils seront ajouté au Captain's Mode après ces changements.
Attendu également, le sort Skewer de Magnus est désormais beaucoup moins puissant, ce qui devrait le rendre moins fort au mid et en hard lane. Son ultimate dure également moins longtemps.
Batrider, Undying, Templar Assassin, Jakiro et Bounty Hunter, des héros très populaires sur la scène compétitive ces derniers temps, subissent un léger nerf, mais ce qui ne devrait pas les faire disparaitre pour autant chez les équipes professionnelles.
Un nerf de Sven était également attendu par beaucoup (Na'Vi les premiers). Cependant Warcry et Greater Cleve n'ont été que très légèrement revus à la baisse. Mais il faut noter que les objets Crystalis et Buriza (Daedalus sur DotA 2) ont également été nerfés, ce qui handicapera Sven.
Quelques buffs de héros sont également au programme. Des héros qui sont sortis de la scène comme Lycanthrope ou Morphling sont légèrement plus forts et des héros quasiment jamais choisis comme Zeus, Earthshaker, Treant ou Clockwerk ont été buffés.
